Pug106 Suspension Tuning (Up Front) To improve the handling abilities of your Pug or to bring the ride height down a little, most people will opt for the spring only option to keep costs to the minimum, but the more serious driver will probably want to go for a full suspension kit with uprated dampers. Coilovers are avialable but the ride quality and costs will mean only serious enthusiasts will go for them. Lowering Springs With the 106, as with most modern Peugeots, lowering springs are a fine way to go and wont detract from the handling as long as good quality springs are used. Body roll will be reduced and the steering will become more precise. The standard shocks will be acceptable for use with lowering springs offering a drop of up to 40mm over standard, but any further and the shocks wont be up to job, causing a bouncy ride and reduced handling performance. Full Suspension Kits If you're after solid handling, or want to lower the car any further than 40mm then you really should consider going for a kit with uprated shocks. You don't necessarily have to buy a kit, as it's sometimes preferable to mix and match shocks and springs from different manufactuers. Coilovers If you're after track-like handling performance, or want the option of ride height adjustability then coilovers are the way to go. However, the cost of these kits will put most potential buyers off, as good quality coilovers can cost as much as £900. Strut Braces A strut brace is used to reduced body flex when cornering hard. The strut brace simply acts as a chassis stiffening device by keeping the distance between the top of the strut constant, therefore keeping the car straight and not allowing the chassis to flex. With stiffened suspension, a strut brace becomes essential, as the 106 can flex so much that the windscreen can crack when you drive over any serious bumps in the road surface.
