Pug106 Brake Upgrades (Basic Disk and Pads Upgrades) Uprated Pads
It is possible to fit pads alone and use the standard disks which keeps costs to a minimum, but for the best results, disks should be upgraded at the same time. The uprated pads will give a better brake performance and reduce fade as far as possible while still using the standard braking system, and whatever disks are being used. An added advantage of fast-road Kevlar pads is the level of brake dust. The standard setup creates a terrible amount of brake dust which does not look too good on your alloys, whereas Kevlar pads give off much less brake dust and will keep dust to a minimum. A drawback, and potential danger, of using performance brake pads, is that heat is required before they can work properly, which means if you spend a lot of time in traffic, or are just starting off for the day, the brakes can feel dead an unresponsive. It's not a major problem, but rather just something you have to keep in the back of your mind, so as not to cause any unexpected mishaps. Uprated Disks
Using uprated disks with standard Peugeot pads is a common option as some people perfer to have the braking power available from cold. Fast-road disks are available in 3 varieties. Firstly, Cross-Drilled disks allow better ventilation. This will help keep the temperature down and resist brake fade, without placing too much wear on the pads. Secondly, Grooved disks will aid the bite when the brakes are applied and will continually de-glaze the pads, therefore allowing the braking system to work at its optimum more of the time. Disks are available with varying numbers of grooves, from as low as 6 to as many as 40. More grooves will give better results, however they will also wear pads far quicker. Lastly, a combination of Cross-Drilled and Grooved provides you with the best from both types, although pad wear will be slightly higher than standard or x-drilled disks. These are the most common option as the offer the best performance. Click here to go back |
